Coronavirus: Separate households banned from meeting up indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire

Separate households will be banned from meeting indoors from midnight tonight in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire after a rise in coronavirus cases.

The news follows the UK saw its highest everyday overall of COVID-19 cases for more than a month and Boris Johnson alerted the infection is “bubbling up” in up to 30 locations throughout the UK.

The order covers:

  • All of Greater Manchester
  • East Lancashire: Pendle, Hyndburn, Burnley, Rossendale and Blackburn with Darwen
  • West Yorkshire: Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees

Health Secretary Matt Hancock stated it was part of “immediate action” to keep people safe following an “increasing rate of transmission” in parts of northern England.

“The spread is largely due to households meeting and not abiding to social distancing,” he stated.

” So from midnight tonight, people from various households will not be permitted to satisfy each other indoors in these locations.

” We take this action with an agony of mind, however we can see increasing rates of COVID throughout Europe and are figured out to do whatever is needed to keep people safe.”
